This is an ultrasound investigation of the major arteries and veins in the abdomen. Presence of any arterial lumen narrowing or blockage in the venous structures can be accurately diagnosed and graded through both B-mode and Doppler assessment.
Report will include
- Aortic, common iliac and external iliac arterial diameters and hemodynamics.
- IVC, common iliac and external iliac vein patency
- Stenosis grading, if applicable
Patient Preparation
No food for 6 hours prior to examination.
A small amount of clear fluid may be taken.
What will happen during the examination?
You will lie on an examination bed and your vascular sonographer, who will perform your scan, will apply ultrasound gel and pass the ultrasound probe across your abdomen whilst applying gentle pressure.
This scan takes 30 minutes.
