Circulation Screening programs at The Harley Street Vascular Clinic, Gleneagles Hospital, Singapore
Diabetic Circulation screen
The Diabetic Circulation Risk Screen is a targeted screening program designed to assess circulation health in diabetics, identifying risks for complications like neuropathy and vascular diseases that lead to amputations. The screen includes:
- Comprehensive Diabetic arterial assessment
- A standard Diabetic foot screen
- Personalized Amputation Risk Reduction plan
Diabetic foot screen
This is the routine foot care screen that all with patients with diabetes should ideally have at 3,6 or 12 months depending on how advanced their disease is. The screen includes:
- ABI and TBI with toe pressures measured in toes 1,3 and 5
- Canadian diabetic foot screening tool for neuropathy and biomechanical change
- Foot and podiatry care recommendations
Executive Men’s Health Circulation screen
The Executive Men’s Health Circulation Screen is a comprehensive screening program focused on assessing and optimizing circulatory health in busy professionals, addressing risks associated with office-based lifestyles and high-stress environments. The screen includes:
- Cardiovascular Risk Assessment
- Male hormonal and sexual health assessment
- Customized plan to restore circulation health and male wellness
Post COVID circulation screen
The Post-Covid Circulation Screen programme is designed to assess and address circulatory system complications that may arise and persist as Vascular Long Covid following a COVID-19 infection. The screen includes:
- Vascular Health Evaluation with PASC (Post Acute Sequelae of Covid) severity assessment
- Clotting Risk Analysis
- Personalised Long Covid cardiovascular rehabilitation programme
Frequent flyer screen
This is to screen for the risk of developing deep vein thrombosis (clots in deep veins) in those who are frequent flyers, develop foot and ankle swelling on flights or have varicose veins at present or in the in the past. The screen includes:
- Ultrasound duplex screening scan for venous incompetence and deep vein thrombosis
- D-Dimer test for sub-clinical thrombosis
- Occlusion plethysmography testing to look for obstruction to the outflow of venous blood from the legs
- Assessment for the need for compression stockings and measured compression hosiery fitted for travel
Frequent flyer PLUS screen
This screen is to assess the additional genetic risk of developing deep vein thrombosis in those who have a family history of deep vein thrombosis or pulmonary embolism and are frequent flyers. It includes all components of the standard Frequent Flyer screen and an additional blood test for a genetic predisposition to clotting. The screen includes:
- Ultrasound duplex screening scan for venous incompetence and deep vein thrombosis
- Occlusion plethysmography testing to look for obstruction to the outflow of venous blood from the legs
- Blood test for inherited/ acquired thrombophilia
- An extended consultation with and recommendations by a senior vascular surgeon
Young adult’s circulation fitness screen – Female
This is a focussed assessment of circulatory health for young women between the ages of 16 to 30 years. They are more likely to develop specific conditions like vasculitis (blood vessel inflammation), painful periods that may be from circulation problems in the pelvis and thoracic outlet syndrome causing arm and neck pain from pressure on the arm blood vessels. If picked up early, simple measures and awareness alone can prevent progression in most young ladies. If missed, later complications can lead to major the need for surgery. The screen includes:
- Pelvic Congestion syndrome screening
- Thyroid and autoimmune antibody screening
- Targeted cardiovascular assessment for young women and consultation to preserve circulation health
Young adult’s circulation fitness screen – Male
This is a focussed assessment of circulatory health for young men between the ages of 16 to 30 years, often as they leave for university or military service. Young men may be unaware of underlying circulation heart and circulation issues that may need precautions to be taken during physical exertion and sport. The screen includes:
- Treadmill test and exercise ankle brachial index measurement
- Thyroid and familial hypercholesterolemia screening
- Targeted cardiovascular assessment for young men and consultation to preserve circulation health
Endurance Athlete Circulation screen
Those who participate in endurance sports like marathons, triathlons, rigorous cycling or mountain biking, diving, mountain hiking, Ironman competitions and so on need their heart, lungs and circulation to work to extreme demand. This screen is to assess their readiness for such activity, regardless of age. The screen includes:
- Cardiopulmonary exercise testing
- Echocardiogram and exercise ankle-brachial index assessment
- Vascular assessment and advice to improve athletic performance safely
Stroke risk screen
The Stroke Risk Screen is a focused cardiovascular assessment aimed at identifying individual risk factors for stroke, particularly in those with predisposing conditions.
- Ultrasound duplex evaluation of carotid and vertebral arteries
- Echocardiogram and cardiac rhythm assessment
- Stroke risk scoring and advice on targeted lifestyle changes for stroke prevention
Aortic Aneurysm screen
This is a focussed assessment of the risk of having an aortic aneurysm – a ballooning of the aorta, which is the largest artery in the body. Screening is recommended by the age of 65 years in adults, and from the age of 50 years if there is a family history of an aneurysm. The screen includes:
- Ultrasound duplex scan of the aorta and iliac arteries
- Consultation with a senior consultant vascular surgeon
Dialysis fistula follow up program
This is a surveillance program to preserve arteriovenous fistulae that are essential for patients on dialysis. It is targeted at identifying potential problems of blockage or bleeding form a dialysis fistula before they occur prolong the lifespan of the fistula. The screen includes:
- Ultrasound duplex scan of the fistula and arm veins with flow parameters
- Deep venous thrombosis scan of both upper limb
- Assessment of adequacy of fistula function
Chronic Pelvic Pain Screen at The Venus Clinic
This screen is performed in collaboration with our partner clinic – The Harley Street Vascular Clinic. Chronic pelvic pain, heavy periods and painful intercourse in women of reproductive age are often due to problems with the circulation in the veins in the pelvis causing pelvic congestion. The screen includes:
- Pelvic duplex ultrasound scan for pelvic disease and occlusion plethysmography for pelvic vein obstruction
- Comprehensive female hormone profile and pelvic congestion syndrome risk scoring
- Consultation with a senior consultant vascular surgeon
