Duplex US examination of superficial and deep venous system has emerged as the most accurate and time efficient tool to understand the causes of venous insufficiency.
The goal of this scan is to map out normal and abnormal venous pathways and identify the sources of incompetence and levels of obstruction. It facilitates the identification of venous variants and diagnosis of atypical causes of reflux such as pelvic and gluteal escapes.
Report will include
- Rule out above-knee DVT and superficial thrombophlebitis
- Identification and extent of both deep and superficial venous reflux
- Leg venous mapping including anatomical variants
- Source of insufficiency
- Post-surgical changes
- Venous-arterial flow index (VAFI)
What will happen during the examination?
A gown will be provided. You will be in the standing position on a tilt bed for most part of the examination. Your abdomen strapped to the bed and arms on handle bars for stability.
Our vascular sonographer will give you instructions on leg manoeuvre to facilitate the scan
This can take up to 1 hour for both lower limbs.
