Thoracic Outlet Syndrome Ultrasound (TOSS)
Our primary mission as Circulation Specialists is to help you achieve the healthiest circulation possible for your stage in life.
Whatever your lifestyle, genetic predisposition or individual health aspirations – Your Circulation is your Lifeline.
This is a dynamic ultrasound scan of the shoulder vasculature to diagnose a subclavian arterial or venous compression by the musculoskeletal system (a cervical rib or hypertrophic scalene muscles) that may result in a significant alteration of blood flow in the limb. Blood flow towards and away from the upper limbs are evaluated with a series of arm provocation manoeuvres and the hemodynamic changes are documented.
Report will include
- Rule out subclavian vein (SCV) thrombosis & subclavian artery (SCA) stenosis
- Presence of SCA or SCV compression in neutral position and with provocation
- Hemodynamic changes in SCA and SCV
- Correlation of ultrasound findings with symptoms
What will happen during the examination?
You may be asked to change into a gown or expose your shoulder region.
You will be in a sitting position and our vascular sonographer will ask you to move your arms, neck and shoulders in various positions to reproduce your symptoms. It usually takes 30 minutes.
