Dr Sriram Narayanan (Dr Ram) has over 15 years of experience as a vascular and endovascular surgeon. He has over 30 peer reviewed publications, over 100 conference presentations, and has been a teacher, trainer and mentor to junior vascular surgeons from Singapore, as well as the UK, India, Indonesia, Philippines, Brunei and Australia. He is recognized by his peers as a global key opinion leader and researcher in Complex Vein surgery and Pelvic Congestion Syndrome management. He is the current President of the Asian Venous Forum and represents Singapore on the council of the International Union of Phlebology.
Dr Ram had his basic medical training at India’s premier medical school JIPMER, and his early postgraduate surgical residency training at Sir JJ Hospital, Mumbai, India. He then moved to the UK in 1997, where he trained in a wide range of surgical specialties including upper and lower GI surgery, Thoracic surgery and renal transplantation at Liverpool, Cornwall and Nottingham. He was selected for the All-Wales higher surgical training programme in 2002 based in Cardiff and was awarded the Completion of Certificate of Specialist Training (CCST) in the UK in 2008, specializing in Vascular surgery.
Post CCST, Dr Ram underwent advanced training in vascular and endovascular surgery at the Imperial College, London as a Senior Registrar under the mentorship of Professor Alun Davies. He was then appointed as a Consultant Vascular Surgeon at the University Hospital of North Staffordshire in 2010. He moved to Tan Tock Seng Hospital, Singapore in 2011, where he was the Chief of the Vascular Surgery service and Adj Asst Professor of Surgery at the National University of Singapore. He became a part of The Harley Street Heart and Vascular Centre in 2017.
Besides medicine, Dr. Ram enjoys music, cricket and world history and politics. He credits, as his biggest influences, his father’s extraordinary sense of fairness and respect for others, and Professor Alun Davies’ inspiration for teaching, research and helping patients. Dr. Ram’s mission is to develop accessible treatment for all, as the costs of medicine have left the less privileged behind, without equal access to technology and knowledge advances in healthcare. He believes in treating patients as people with fears and hopes and not just as a collection of symptoms and x-ray films.
